Pro Evolution Soccer 6

Pro Evolution Soccer 6 (also known as Winning Eleven 10 and Winning Eleven X for Xbox 360 in Japan, Winning Eleven: Pro Evolution Soccer 2007 in the United States) is one of Konami's highly successful Pro Evolution Soccer franchise. Released on 27 October 2006 for the PlayStation 2, Xbox 360, and PC platforms and following on the Nintendo DS and PlayStation Portable on 1 December 2006, Pro Evolution Soccer 6 is the 6th edition of the series for the PlayStation 2, 2nd for the PlayStation Portable and 4th for PC. This year features Pro Evolution Soccer 6 making its debut on the Nintendo DS and the Xbox 360. The Xbox 360 version features improved graphics, but retains gameplay similar to the other console versions. The edit mode has been stripped down for the Xbox 360 release, due to time restrictions. The graphics engine on the PC does not utilise the next-gen 360 engine but will again be a direct conversion of the PlayStation 2 engine.
A Bundesliga license was supposed to be a feature of the game but Konami were forced to remove the Bundesliga license, which means the Bundesliga is not present in PES6, not even as a series of unlicensed teams, with the exception of FC Bayern Munich who were sy licensed with the omission of their shirt sponsor T-Home.

New features

International Challenge Mode

PES6 marks the first time the International Challenge Mode has been included on the PES Series. Usually this is seen on the Japanese version - Winning Eleven - where you play as Japan and take them through the qualifiers to the International Cup and then attempt to win it. On PES, however, you have the ability to choose any playable nation on the game. The user can only play the qualifiers from Europe ,Asia ,South America, and North/Central America. Although the tournament is not licensed, the qualifiers have a lot of similarities to the FIFA World Cup qualification process:

• A cross-playoff is used between a South American team and an Oceanian team, and a North American team plays an Asian team.
• There is the same number of qualifiers on the game from each region as there is in the real World Cup. e.g., 14 qualify from Europe.
• The qualifiers from South America are the same - 10 teams play each other twice with the top 4 qualifying and 5th place entering the cross-playoff.
• The qualifiers from North America are the same - 6 teams play each other twice with the top 3 qualifying and 4th place entering the cross-playoff.

Team selection can be changed before each game and the player can choose from any player with the eligible nationality.

The International Challenge mode is only available in the PlayStation 2 and PC versions of PES6. The Xbox 360 and PSP versions do not include this mode.

Random Selection Match

Also new to PES6 is the Random Selection Match. In this mode, the user can pick up to either four clubs/nations or one region/league. Once selected, the computer picks a random selection of players from the teams or region for the player's squad. The lineup is selected automatically, although players can choose to let the computer to pick another random selection. This was not included in the Xbox 360 version, presumably because of time restrictions.

PES shop

• Players are available as always, but there have been many more added (all unlicensed, but based on real players). It's not only retired "legendary players" that can be bought, Kerlon and Freddy Adu, who are still active, are both available.
• Costumes can be bought. The Ostrich and Raptor costumes have the players riding them. The Penguin costume has the player in a penguin suit. When riding the raptors, they shoot, header, control, pass and do all the hard work, but their shooting ability is much less than a normal player.
• Gameplay frames, new hairstyles, new goal celebrations, and new stadiums are other new features available in the PES Shop.
• The PES Shop is present on all versions of the game, with the exception of the Xbox 360 version

Network

Groups have been introduced on the PES Network. A player can join/create a group that can gain points by playing together. Groups can play each other in rival matches. If a player creates a group, they manage who's in and who's out, the team name, and who else can allow others to join and matches. A player can join a group by applying to join or accepting an invitation from another player. If the leader accepts, they are in the group. Only ten are allowed in one group at first, but there can potentially be 30 in a group at one time. Groups can reach levels with the highest level to progress to is Level 14. When you achieve higher levels, you will unlock different costumes (penguin, dinosaur, and ostrich) and classic national teams. Also, you can achieve extra member spaces in your group when you go up in level.

The Network capabilities have since been relinquished.

Platform differences

It should be noted that though the Xbox 360 version lacks dressing, it is the only version with a sy analogue Manual Pass feature, as well as much more sophisticated ball physics compared to the PS2 version and can therefore be argued to be the ultimate version in terms of gameplay as well as an online community that continues to have matches available all of the time. Even to this very day several years after the release of Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 and onwards, marking the point where the series underwent significant changes to the gameplay that remain in the series to this day.

Critical response

In 2006, Pro Evolution Soccer 6 got a perfect 10/10 score in the Official PlayStation 2 Magazine UK, which beat FIFA 07 (9/10 in the same magazine). However, the PSP version of the game ranked beneath the FIFA 07 PSP version due to slow loading times and an incomplete editor. Hyper's Eliot Fish commends the game for its "tighter dribbling [and] refined Master League" but criticises it for its commentary.

Pro Evolution Soccer 6 marks the last in a sequence for the Pro Evolution Soccer and even International Superstar Soccer series. Although the series started earlier, upon release on the Playstation console, International Superstar Soccer Pro, a version of the game was produced that began to slowly evolve with each annual revision within the series. Starting in 1997, and spanning 10 years, each game in the series (which was at the time widely considered to be light years ahead of FIFA's efforts) was piece by piece becoming more tight, more responsive and ultimately a much more complete football sim. Pro Evolution Soccer 6 on the Xbox360 (being released as a souped up port of the PS2 version and as such having more detailed gameplay, in spite of superficial omissions such as edit mode or stadiums) is the last game to be released in this chain of evolution.
The next release in the series broke the chain and was developed for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, to take advantage of the new next generation technology to the s (PES6 on Xbox360 being largely a tweaked port of previous generation). However, it soon became apparent to the media and game playing public that something very big had been lost with this change. The New Pro Evolution Soccer series (unofficial title), spanning Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 to present, represents a much less enjoyable and less sophisticated football simulation experience and many fans the world over have chosen to think of PES6 as sadly the last game in a discontinued series.

Still Life 2 is a 2009 computer adventure game by Microïds. It is a sequel to the 2005 game Still Life, and follows on from the characters and themes of 2003's Post Mortem. 

Plot

The game follows FBI Agent Victoria McPherson in tracking down and stopping a serial killer. Gameplay has moved with the killer, known as the East Coast Killer, to Maine. The game uses the same storytelling device of switching back and forth between two player characters as its predecessor. The second character is one of the killer's victims, journalist Paloma Hernandez, who has been covering the East Coast Killer's crimes, making the game switch between investigation and survival. A short introduction to the game was posted on August 31, which covers the dates of October 2 and 3, 2008 in the game. It states that on the evening of October 2 the body of a missing person was found on the side of Highway 201, near Jackman. The video which had been sent to the police and the media identifies the killer as the East Coast Killer. McPherson sees Hernandez reporting on the killing on TV and later arranges a meeting. Paloma is abducted and she wakes up on October 3 in the killer's dilapidated house. The East Coast Killer allowed Hernandez to call McPherson with clues to the location of the house to trap and kill her, a plan he formed with an ex-marine and former FBI agent Hawker who had been dismissed when McPherson refused to back his claim that killing an innocent person had been justified at the time. Despite being successsy ambushed, McPherson managed to turn the tables and saved herself and Hernandez, but not before nearly a dozen police officers and a rookie FBI agent were killed.

Through a series of flashbacks, it was revealed that the Chicago Killer was Richard Valdes who turned out to be the grandson of the man Gus was following through Prague.

Development

There was controversy surrounding the first Still Life in its lack of an ending. Still Life ended without revealing the villain, setting up a finalé which, for some time, was not made. However, on 6 December 2007, Microïds announced the development of this game, which was released in April 2009. Development was started in June 2007 by Gameco Studios. The game is also being developed for Apple Macintosh computers.

Preview trailers

In June 2008, a teaser video and screenshots were posted online. The video explores an abandoned mansion with a woman screaming in the distance. The end of the video showed a then-tentative release date of Fall 2008. In November 2008 a second trailer was released.

On August 31, another set of screenshots of the cinematic and in-game views were released.The official game series website opened on 19 September, on the same day the release was pushed back from November 2008 to the first quarter of 2009. In late October some high resolution images of Vic McPherson and some in-game screen shots were postedOn December 8 Microïds and GameCo launched a machinima contest, where fans created their own trailer for Still Life 2, using exclusive supplied material. The winner, out of over 120 entries, was announced on January 15, and the winner's and the runners up's trailers were posted on the Still Life website. The winner will also have their name listed in the game credits.

In February and March 2009 more screenshots, an introduction video, and in game footage of the game were released.The website also features videos of some of the makers of the game speculating on the identity of the killer.

Demo

A demo version of the game was released. This contained sections from early in the game in the killer's house.

Release

The game was first released as an online download to Germany in early April 2009. Further releases to Europe and North America followed. Encore is publishing the game in North America, and cdv Software Entertainment is in France. In the UK and Benelux it is published byIceberg Interactive.

Payday: The Heist is a downloadable cooperative first-person shooter video game developed by Overkill Software and published by Sony Online Entertainment. It was released on October 18, 2011 for PlayStation 3 in North America and November 2, 2011 in Europe. It was also released on October 20, 2011 for Windows via Steam software in both the United States and the United Kingdom.

It contains six different missions, with each mission containing random elements which alter the gameplay in subtle ways.

The game runs on a modified Diesel game engine.

Gameplay

In Payday: The Heist, players use a variety of firearms to complete objectives (usually centered around stealing a certain object or a particular amount of money). The game plays from the first person perspective, but offers a few twists on the standard FPS formula. Killing civilians is frowned upon, meaning players have the option of restraining civilians until the heist concludes. Should any player die during the heist, one of his teammates may release a civilian in exchange for the player to respawn. Each heist is generated randomly, though it typically involves dealing with law enforcement, which can range from standard patrol officers to SWAT operatives.

The game has no plot but focuses on four criminals (Dallas, Hoxton, Chains and Wolf) who team up to commit robberies. Chronologically, the group's first heist took place at the First World Bank, where they entered a vault by using thermite and stole a large amount of money. A post-game message congratulates the group, telling them that they are "set for life", but recommends more heists, purely for the enjoyment of them.

Downloadable content

Overkill Software promised DLC before the game's launch. In October 2011 the first of these was revealed to include a Nixon mask, new equipment, skills, characters, and heists.

Trial

A trial is available for the PS3 version of Payday. This trial restricts the player to one heist, but contains the "Reputation" system, upgrades, and unlockable items. The player is unable to unlock any weapons and has a cap to reputation 10.
