Still Life 2

Still Life 2 is a 2009 computer adventure game by Microïds. It is a sequel to the 2005 game Still Life, and follows on from the characters and themes of 2003's Post Mortem. 

Plot

The game follows FBI Agent Victoria McPherson in tracking down and stopping a serial killer. Gameplay has moved with the killer, known as the East Coast Killer, to Maine. The game uses the same storytelling device of switching back and forth between two player characters as its predecessor. The second character is one of the killer's victims, journalist Paloma Hernandez, who has been covering the East Coast Killer's crimes, making the game switch between investigation and survival. A short introduction to the game was posted on August 31, which covers the dates of October 2 and 3, 2008 in the game. It states that on the evening of October 2 the body of a missing person was found on the side of Highway 201, near Jackman. The video which had been sent to the police and the media identifies the killer as the East Coast Killer. McPherson sees Hernandez reporting on the killing on TV and later arranges a meeting. Paloma is abducted and she wakes up on October 3 in the killer's dilapidated house. The East Coast Killer allowed Hernandez to call McPherson with clues to the location of the house to trap and kill her, a plan he formed with an ex-marine and former FBI agent Hawker who had been dismissed when McPherson refused to back his claim that killing an innocent person had been justified at the time. Despite being successsy ambushed, McPherson managed to turn the tables and saved herself and Hernandez, but not before nearly a dozen police officers and a rookie FBI agent were killed.

Through a series of flashbacks, it was revealed that the Chicago Killer was Richard Valdes who turned out to be the grandson of the man Gus was following through Prague.

Development

There was controversy surrounding the first Still Life in its lack of an ending. Still Life ended without revealing the villain, setting up a finalé which, for some time, was not made. However, on 6 December 2007, Microïds announced the development of this game, which was released in April 2009. Development was started in June 2007 by Gameco Studios. The game is also being developed for Apple Macintosh computers.

Preview trailers

In June 2008, a teaser video and screenshots were posted online. The video explores an abandoned mansion with a woman screaming in the distance. The end of the video showed a then-tentative release date of Fall 2008. In November 2008 a second trailer was released.

On August 31, another set of screenshots of the cinematic and in-game views were released.The official game series website opened on 19 September, on the same day the release was pushed back from November 2008 to the first quarter of 2009. In late October some high resolution images of Vic McPherson and some in-game screen shots were postedOn December 8 Microïds and GameCo launched a machinima contest, where fans created their own trailer for Still Life 2, using exclusive supplied material. The winner, out of over 120 entries, was announced on January 15, and the winner's and the runners up's trailers were posted on the Still Life website. The winner will also have their name listed in the game credits.

In February and March 2009 more screenshots, an introduction video, and in game footage of the game were released.The website also features videos of some of the makers of the game speculating on the identity of the killer.

Demo

A demo version of the game was released. This contained sections from early in the game in the killer's house.

Release

The game was first released as an online download to Germany in early April 2009. Further releases to Europe and North America followed. Encore is publishing the game in North America, and cdv Software Entertainment is in France. In the UK and Benelux it is published byIceberg Interactive.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine is a 2009 action-adventure game loosely based on the film of the same name. The game release coincided with the release of the film on May 1, 2009 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Windows, Wii, PlayStation 2, Nintendo DS, and PlayStation Portable. The game was developed primarily by Raven Software, who used Unreal engine technology to develop the game. Amaze Entertainment developed the Wii and PS2 ports and Griptonite Games developed the PSP and DS ports. Origins was published by Activision.

Gameplay

The Uncaged Edition was released for the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. When Wolverine sustains injuries, chunks of his flesh and clothes are removed. His injuries heal in real-time. Origins takes influences from games such as God of War and Devil May Cry. The Uncaged version also features a large amount of blood and gore. Enemies can be dismembered in several ways in addition to the graphic display of Wolverine's healing factor.

Combat relies on three options - light attacks, heavy attacks, and grabs. Another form of attack is the lunge, which allows Wolverine to quickly close the distance to an enemy. Wolverine can also use the environment to his advantage, such as by impaling foes on spikes. During combat, Wolverine's rage meter builds up, and when s allows him to use more devastating attacks, like the claw spin and a berserker mode, which increases Wol

verine's claw strength until his Rage Meter empties.

The PlayStation 2 and Wii versions are less graphic, with less language and slightly different combat. Feral senses are still obtained, which can detect doors, traps, enemies and sentinel observers. Lunges must be performed at closer distances. Experience (XP) is collected from defeating enemies, completing missions, defeating all enemies, destroying all turrets, and defeating bosses within a certain time frame. The XP is used to purchase upgrades.

Synopsis

The story is a combination of the Wolverine backstory explored in the film and an original plot created by Raven Software, which was influenced by major events in the X-Men comic series.

Plot

A prologue shows Wolverine hunting/being hunted by a group of soldiers in a bleak urban environment. He is wearing a shredded uniform reminiscent of the costume seen in the X-Men films, indicating that this may take place in a later time. His thoughts drift to a forgotten past.

The game begins in Africa, which is implied to be Wakanda, due to Stryker's interest in meteorite deposits in the regions. The Africa missions, which are presented as flashbacks, chronicle the events which lead to Logan disbanding from Team X, showing that his own morals conflict with what Team X is ordered to do (i.e. massacres of innocents for strategic purposes).

Three years later, when Logan has settled in Canada with his girlfriend, Kayla Silverfox, his brother Victor Creed reappears at a local bar where he and Logan battle. Creed emerges victorious, breaks Logan's bone claws and knocks him unconscious. Upon waking up, Logan finds Kayla dead. Col. William Stryker arrives, offering Logan a chance at revenge. Logan accepts and undergoes a procedure that bonds adamantium, an indestructible metal processed from the meteorite deposits, with his bones. As the procedure ends, Logan overhears that Stryker wants his memory erased, becomes enraged and breaks out of the Alkali Lake facility, killing many of Stryker's men in the process, including Agent Zero.

Logan travels to the Project: Wideawake site searching for John Wraith, where he has a confrontation with Bolivar Trask and his mutant hunting Sentinel. After being freed, Wraith leads Logan to Fred Dukes, who in turn leads Logan to Remy Lebeau, who mistakes Logan as one of Stryker's agents. Logan pursues Lebeau to the roof of the building, where he convinces Lebeau to take him to Stryker's island base. Arriving at the island, Logan learns that Silverfox is alive and her "death" was a ploy to get Logan to volunteer for Weapon X. Devastated by the truth, Logan accepts Stryker's offer to erase his memory, but changes his mind after Creed takes Silverfox hostage. Following Creed and Logan's fight, Stryker's Weapon XI, Deadpool, is sent to kill Wolverine, and after the ensuing battle, Logan's memories are damaged when he is shot by an adamantium bullet from Stryker's handgun.

In the epilogue, Bolivar Trask, who has perfected the recreation of human body parts via robotic replacements, has taken Logan hostage. Logan breaks free of his chains, but Trask flees. An army of Sentinels are seen in the distance in a ruined city, destroying everything in sight and Logan also quoting that "this world may be broken, but he's got the tools (his claws) to fix it".

Characters

Hugh Jackman as James Howlett / Logan / Wolverine:A mutant and soldier with powers of regeneration, animalistic instincts, enhanced strength, unbreakable bones and six retractable adamantium claws (Bone claws before the adamantium transfusion).

Liev Schreiber as Victor Creed:Wolverine's half-brother and fellow soldier who has a healing factor, animalistic instincts, and retractable claws.

Gregg Berger as Fred J. Dukes / The Blob: A mutant and former member of Stryker's mutant strike team. Fred has an indestructible layer of skin. After leaving Stryker and the team, he developed an eating disorder and became obese.

Chris Edgerly as Remy LeBeau / Gambit:A former prisoner of Stryker who can manipulate kinetic energy.

Steven Blum as Wade Wilson:The "merc with a mouth." Wade is a highly trained mercenary who was the annoyance of the team.

Weapon XI / Deadpool: The altered Wade Wilson is the mutant killer. He was given a healing factor, teleportation, and optic blast powers and had his mouth forced shut. Stryker also had adamantium blades surgically implanted into his arms.

Anna Graves as Raven Darkholme: A female mutant with shapeshifting abilities and a CIA operative who was working in conjunction with Stryker's team in Africa. She later encounters Wolverine when they both are searching for Wraith. She is Wraith's lover and the mother of his child.

Bumper Robinson as Dr. Bolivar Trask: Creator of the Sentinels. He kidnaps Wraith to use him in his study of the mutant gene for sentinel programming. His hand is cut off by Wolverine, he later replaces it with a prosthetic hand. In the future as shown in the game, he appears to be the one directing the soldiers attacking Wolverine in an attempt to capture him.

Development

Raven Software set up a developers blog and project lead Dan Vondrak also set up a Twitter account to post updates and impressions on the game.Blur Studio, who also worked with Raven on X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance provided all of the cgi cutscenes for the game.The developers published a large number of 3D screenshots, virtual three-dimensional renders of a particular setting that could be viewed in a web browser.The music for the game was composed by Paul Haslinger, who composed the music for the Underworld film series and such games as Need For Speed: Undercover, Rainbow Six: Vegas and its sequel, Rainbow Six: Vegas 2.Raven worked with publisher Activision to provide easter eggs from other games to be found, such as the Lich King's sword from World of Warcraft and the cake mentioned in the game Portal.

PES 2012 continues KONAMI's determination to listen to its fanbase and make
key improvements to the aspects the audience demands. Thus, the focus for
PES 2012 is to ensure the highest level of playability, challenge and
realism for the game, whilst also improving the level of control offered to
users. Fundamental changes to all areas of its AI have been made following
user feedback. Similarly, teamwork is central to how the game moves and
feels, enabling fans to replicate anything they would see in a real match.
Active AI: PES 2012 strives to recreate the movement and team ethic of real
football, and Active AI plays a vital role in this. Players will no longer
flock to a ball, but will make intelligent runs to create space and draw
markers, while others will make themselves available, instigate runs, and
visibly call for the ball. In the box, support players will make diagonal
decoy runs, s backs will overlap on the wings and midfielders will
provide support from behind the ball. The new Active AI routines ensure the
flow of a match is more natural, with specific routines for both attack and
defence. Hold-up play implemented last year has been improved for easier
control with more effectiveness. Defending as a unit plays a key role, and
players now hold a tight line, check on the distance between each other,
track back as a unit, and fill in for each other. As individuals they also
make better decisions to close space, block and tackle.


Jostling: Physicality is a key component in PES 2012, with player strength
one of their key individual attributes, and having a vital effect on how
they can use their strength to win the ball in a one-on-one situation.
Players now fall depending on how they are challenged, with more realistic
animations used to show the challenges between two jostling players.


Graphics: Several aspects of the game have enjoyed a huge overhaul. Player
facial expression is now much richer and the lighting effects are more
natural, while new cameras show off the huge variety of pitch-side
movement, with more detail on and around the game than ever before.


Off The Ball Control: Equally key to opening up PES 2012 is the ability to
highlight any player at any time. A new system has been implemented,
allowing users to switch players with ease. In defence, the right stick is
now used to select any outfield player, while set pieces are also enhanced
through its use. Goal kicks, corners, free kicks and throw-ins now let the
user quickly take control of any player off the ball, enabling clever runs
which create space for an attack.


Referee AI: Referees are also crucial to general game flow and their AI has
been greatly enhanced to ensure fewer interruptions to play. Decisions are
improved, and advantage is played much more regularly in offside and free
kick scenarios. As such, refs will only intervene when truly necessary, but
they will show cards if necessary once play has broken down.


Pass Support: Accessed through the new personal player settings, Pass
Support allows users to determine the level of AI assistance when passing
the ball. Players can opt for one of five settings from s support, right
up to s veteran setting which switches off all assistance so that the
direction, weight and speed of every pass is at their disposal.

L.A. Noire (pronounced is a 2011 neo noir crime video game developed byTeam Bondi and published by Rockstar Games. It was released for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360and Microsoft Windows. L.A. Noire is set in Los Angeles in 1947 and challenges the player, controlling a Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) detective, to solve a range of cases across five crime desks. Players must investigate crime scenes for clues, follow up leads, and interrogate suspects, and the players' success at these activities will impact how much of the cases' stories are revealed.
